La Petite Maison Restaurant in Nice - a ReviewGourmet Dining with the Stars in the South of France
Every night is a party at Nicole Rubi's superb restaurant La Petite Maison. The glittering celebrity hangout that serves delicious eclectic food in the heart of Nice.
Here at La Petite Maison, Nicole Rubi rules supreme. Orchestrating light, ambiance and an eclectic taste experience, she ambles through the chic bustling terrace alighting at random tables checking that everyone is enjoying her party. Heavenly DishesRather like clapping in between orchestral movements the cognoscenti know the do’s and dont’s of La Petite Maison, and there aren’t many dont’s. What you should do is order the scrambled egg truffle. The angels have descended. The lightest silkiest eggs sprinkled with delicate shavings of truffle invented by Nicole Rubi herself. Very sexy foreplay indeed. Sink into a taste oblivion and then be livened up by a scrunchy artichoke salad with fine strips of pepper, much more sensible! The zuchinni fritters swiftly follow-a tad bland but then again a little hiatus is no bad thing when the next taste bud sensation is about to explode. Birthday Diners CelebrationsTalking of explosions, Nicole cracks some glasses and anoints the next-door birthday group with a bottle of champagne generously including the adjacent table in the celebration spray. But she is cool, super cool, just a hint of a sardonic smile as she ambles to the next table. The Star DishThe magician moves on.... and we have arrived to the moment of truth. The dish that separates the good from the great. What could pip the scrambled egg truffle to the post? Could it be the delicate marinated shrimp or the creamy cholesterol rich truffle pasta that you know might give you a heart attack or at the very least scupper the chance of rediscovering les curves perdues? Non! The dish that is truly the star of the show is Local Wild Sea bass cooked ‘as we like it’ the menu proclaims. The puddings arrive. White peaches in Kirsh, Fraises du Bois and Tiramisu. Plummeting into the fluffy creamy chocolatey Italian concoction the word ‘regime’ seems almost a blasphemy. The chef Caruso Raphael circles the tables and the guests applaude. Already so accomplished at twenty four If Caruso were alive surely his namesake would sing his praises. A List CelebritiesNeedless to say this wonderful authentic Nicois eatery is regularly sprinkled with celebrities like Elton John, Hugh Grant and a host of other colourful glitterati who come not only for the gourmet experience but to be in Nicole Rubi’s amusing and exciting show. You are advised to book well in advance.
Another must for great eateries in the South of France is the legendery La Colombe d'OR in Saint Paul de Vence
