NewcastleGateshead stages its 2nd food festival showcasing the best of the region's food produce alongside culinary delights from its retailers, restaurants and hotels.

NewcastleGateshead

Newcastle (stretching on the north bank of the River Tyne in North East England) and Gateshead (on the south bank of the Tyne) are marketed as a single visitor destination under the NewcastleGateshead brand, and their calendar is packed with world-class events.

Eat! Food Festival

Supported by representatives from the food and drink industry, between May 3rd through 22nd 2008, the second EAT! NewcastleGateshead Food Festival promises to turn NewcastleGateshead into a food lover’s paradise.

Beside providing an eclectic mix of exciting events, EAT! Newcastlegateshead aims to encourage the public to enjoy the very best food and drink the region has to offer, promote convivial eating, raise the profile of the hospitality industry and build connections with local schools, community groups and catering colleges.

An Emerging Foodie Destination

Stella Hall, Creative Director at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, proudly states: “EAT! offers so much more than your typical food festival. We wanted to bring something very different to the table such as giving people unique and creative experiences as well as fantastic food. EAT! will showcase NewcastleGateshead as an emerging foodie destination.”

Local Quality Food and Major International Issues

Simon Preston, who has worked in the hospitality and the food industry around the UK and the world including Harvey Nichols, returns to direct the festival for the second year and says: “This year’s programme is much larger with over 30 events and activities, but we are still very much focusing upon the high quality food produced and served in this area as well as highlighting major national and international issues such as those of fair trade and sustainability.”
