Located in Manchester city centre, with its own parking, Albert's Shed has shiny modern décor (despite the name) with an Italian themed menu. Lunch time pizzas start at £7.00. (US$14 ) Chicken, duck, steak and panfried lobster (£20 US$ 40) are also available. Delicious desserts are all £4.50. (US$9 ) Try the rhubarb and lavender sponge pudding for a taste sensation.

Better than the usual Chinese, this is an award winning Cantonese restaurant in Manchester’s Chinatown. Beautifully simple décor is set over several floors, giving a sense of intimacy. Choose from a quick lunch to a full “banquet” of 4 courses which starts at £29.50. (US$60) Open for lunch and dinner, but phone to confirm.

Not in Manchester city centre, so you need a car to get there, but worth it for a special occasion, and you will be expected to be smartly dressed. That means collar and tie for the guys. They feature in the list of the top 20 best UK restaurants which is not surprising as the food is imaginative and creatively prepared, served in elegant and calm surroundings.
It’s on the pricey side with a 3 course dinner menu at £47.50. (US$96) (Lunches start at £22.00 / US$44) ) The menu changes regularly, but for an example of the type of food, this fish dish was recently available :
“Turbot (gently baked fillets of turbot, grated cauliflower, olive oil, lemon juice, fresh cottage cheese, pear puree, walnuts crushed, smoked salmon nugget, vanilla glaze)”
Reservations are essential and they only take telephone bookings after 4pm between Tuesdays and Thursdays and after 12 noon on Fridays and Saturdays. Who said the British were a race of eccentrics?

Traditional British Food made far more interesting is the best way to describe their menu. For example, Black Pudding in Beer Batter with homemade Apple & Sarsaparilla Chutney. For dessert there is Sweet Ginger Beer Jelly with Rhubarb Ripple Ice Cream and a Cardamom Biscuit.

A relic from the 70’s with original décor, but if you like Armenian food which is a bit like Turkish and Greek food, then this Manchester city centre restaurant is the place to visit. Delicious starters include dips, hummus, falafel and spicy meatballs served with flatbread. Try the mixed kebab as a main course and finish with a bowl of Turkish delight and coffee. 2 courses plus wine starts at around £25 (US$50) a head.
